DAY 38– I miss my grandchildren!

April 26 – A lovely day with the Kuhnert Family

After waking up to a very nice breakfast, Michael and Vicki decided to take us on a beautiful ride to a couple of their favorite places.
Milchreis was wonderful!   Reminded me of my Grandma Olson.

The Germans love to serve a variety of breads with every meal

The girls had to school so they were unable to come with us. We arrived before much of anything was open at the Lake, but we enjoyed the stroll by the lake and through the village.  Unfortunately, I didn't write down the name of the village or the lake, but both were very interesting!

Life is to be lived and to have fun!

Such a wonderful morning by the sea!

This is where Michael works mining salt from the mountain

We then drove to a large grove of trees that were totally green with mold and had the most interesting shapes. It was very unique!  While walking through them, they seemed to be real and come alive!  It reminded me of the "Wizard of Oz".

This was so much fun exploring in amongst all the twisted & scary trees!

We got home in time to pick up the girls since they have short days on Fridays. We all went by train to the train station in Hanover and they saw us off. What a sweet time we had with them, which we'll hold dear to our hearts. We're very happy to say that Carlene's contacts, the Kuhnert Family, will be sealed in the Frankfurt Temple in three weeks. I wish I could be there to go through with them, but I will be thinking about them that day. (UPDATE: May 18th was that special day and we are so happy for the Kuhnert's and their eternal family!)

Such a beautiful young lady Janette is...same age as my sweet Kylianne and Hailey!

The kids will be probably be grown when we see them again!  What a GREAT family!

Waving to them as the train is pulling out...we all had tears in our eyes!

Thank you to the Kuhnert Family for a fantastic time in Hanover....we will always remember you!

We had a 5 hour train ride ahead of us to the Amsterdam area.

Our next host, Ingrid, lived in the town of Zaandam, about 15 minutes away by train from Amsterdam.
She picked us up at the train station, but had almost left us because we were late. We had met a nice mother and daughter on the train.

The mother became very friendly after Rich had helped them with their luggage, lifting it up to the storage area. She gave him a package of nuts and then offered him a beer. When we got off the train, we noticed that the mother could hardly walk and seemed to be very faint. It turns out that she was having an insulin reaction. We helped her find her medicine and calmed her down. A short time later, an older daughter appeared to help them. It was quite the ordeal!
First look at Zan Daam, our town for the next few nights.

Ingrid's yummy Dutch Salad

We got to Ingrid's apartment and she fed us some hot soup, a beautiful salad, and pasta with seafood and vegetables. It all tasted so good!
