April 24 – Hamburg...and the
Whirlwind Tour with an awesome young couple
Achim drove us to the next town so we
could catch the train to Hamburg. It was a two hour ride through the
green, green farmlands of Germany. Daniel and Sinje picked us up at
the train station in Hamburg, the 2nd largest city in Germany.

Hustling & bustling Train Station in Hamburg |
What a young and vibrant couple they
were! After putting our packs in their delightful, clean, and
beautifully decorated little flat, they took us on a tour of
Hamburg.
|
They served us franzbrotchen before we took off on our city tour. YUM! |
|
Cute kitchen table in their dining area |

This is a lamp shade they made from clothes pins. |
|
How about a ceiling lamp from plastic white cups? |
|
Sparkling clean & very cute bathroom |
We saw so many interesting sights and will always remember
their willingness to share their day with us.

I thought these trees were so cute - never found out the name of them, though |
Michaelis Bridge is famous for its love padlocks.
Whether this custom originated in Italy or Serbia is not quite known;
in any case there is a growing number of love locks with the name of the
sweethearts on them. Today you can buy a lock at a locksmith who will
engrave the names, dates, hearts etc. onto the lock, the lock is then
affixed to the bridge and the key thrown into the river as a symbol for
everlasting love.

|
Red Light District - ONLY MEN over 18 allowed! |
Constructed from 1886 to 1897, the City Hall, still houses its original governmental functions with the office of the First Mayor of Hamburg.
Sinje & Daniel particularly enjoyed showing us the “Red
Light District.” street. There was a big fence that said “MEN
ONLY over the age of 18. Supposedly no women were allowed and would get kicked out if they went in. It was quite funny!

Our fabulous hosts in Hamburg - Daniel & Sinje...THANK-YOU!! |
After a lovely day of good weather (the
days before evidently had been rainy in Hamburg) and good company, we
we settled in for the night.

One day is just not enough to enjoy
this beautiful young couple. We hope to see them again someday and
that they will follow their dream to come to America!
