April 8 - Docked at Crete for 19 hours
We woke up to no movement, so we
realized the boat was still in the harbor at Crete. We heard many
stories, but finally got the “skinny” that the port officials
wouldn't let the ferry go because of the bad weather in Santorini –
wind and rain. We had brought on a little food - cheese and bread, apples, oranges, yogurt and cucumbers, but we were about out and didn't want to buy expensive restaurant food, so we weren't happy campers.

Rich is eating a really long cucumber |

Shari is looking REALLY tired after a LONG ferry ride and the end isn't in sight |
At first, they wouldn't let anyone off the boat and
finally about 1 p.m., they were issuing passes to get off and walk
around Crete. We found two other young people that wanted to go with
us, so off we went for the next few hours to see about Crete.

Love these cute little churches! |
Marcos
serves in the military in South Africa and is on vacation and Elena
is starting a new life and business with some friends in Athens. We
had a lot of fun walking the streets, having some fresh orange juice,
and just enjoying getting off the boat.

Put your feet in this tub of fishies and they eat the dead skin off - it really works, but I was not brave enough to do it! |

After we got back on the boat, Rich and
I watched a movie on our laptop and went to bed around 10:00 because
the word was that we would dock in Santorini around 3 a.m. We did
get about four hours of sleep.
Thanks for all of the pictures. Just tried to update the kids on your trip. They were definitely fascinated by the fish that will eat the dead skin off your feet! Hailey thinks that sounds cool to try. Dallin did indeed like "Aslan". So many adventures!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the kids are enjoying the blog. I;'m having fun doing it, but I just can't seem to get caught up. Can't wait to skype them again - just need to not be so busy in the evening with our hosts. Crazy! Night!
DeleteShari if you go to Budapest do try the fish pedicure - it is one of my best memories of my trip in Europe. I am looking forward to doing it again :-). Here is the Spa that I went to: http://dayspa-budapest.com/halpedikur-eng.php. You can see my experience from my blog posting: http://roxanneswanderlustchronicles.blogspot.ca/2011/08/thursday-august-11-2011-i-really-wanted.html
