We spent the 2nd with Mary, originally from Oregon, but now residing in Kas, Turkey. She also teaches English in Demre and was a wonderful asset in helping us with our travels. We had so much fun with her as she brought Grace to Antalya and we did all of our crazy Easter week-end stuff. Remember?
We originally had intended to catch a short ferry to Meis (Kastellorizo to the Greeks), a small island only 10 minutes from Kas, but the ferries were not traveling at this time, so we took a 6 hour bus to Marmaris, a port town and tourist resort on the Turkish Riviera.
The cutest Turkish girl beside us - I think I miss my grandchildren!! :( |
We had put out a plea to the Marmaris area 12 hours previous to see if we could find lodging from a couch surfer. Mr. Doruk, an older man of about 60 (guess we fit that category, too :) called us on our Greek cell phone and told us to meet him at McDonald's and he could host us. We were very excited because he had good English and also helped us to buy a Catamaran Ferry Boat ticket to the island of Rhodos, Greece for in the morning.
Mr. Doruk and I walking the covered mall area in Marmaris. WHEW! It was hard to keep up with him - he walked FAST! |
Everyone drives scooters through the narrow streets |
After purchasing our tickets, he walked us to what we thought was his place. Up three flights of stairs we went. He practically jogged up there! We went to the top of an apartment complex that overlooked the city.
Our apartment was at the top. Too bad the pool was not full. |
He showed us everything and then told us to call if we needed anything. Turns out this was his extra place that he shared with his couch surfers. We had everything and felt like we were in a 4 star hotel! King size bed, kitchenette, view, TV. WOW! And we were alone for an evening. It was definitely nice to not have to talk to anyone and get to bed early!
Mr. Doruk and I in the cute little kitchen of our top story abode. Lovely evening! |
The most gorgeous flower outside the complex |
Rich went to get us some food for the evening and we listened outside to a huge soccer game that was on a big screen TV in the plaza. I think everyone in Marmaris was there! To bed for a wonderful restful evening!
