Sept 4 - Biking Back to Ashbourne
Ashbourne is where we needed to catch the bus back to Derby where we were couch surfing. It was 7 miles from Roston, so we needed to get going in order to get there before dark. We hopped on our bikes about 6 p.m. and enjoyed a most beautiful ride through the country roads.

See grandkids! I did wear my helmet while in England. |
Cute little sign leading to the Church in Norbury |
The River Dove separates these two little hamlet/villages - we got to visit both of them. |
The sun was beginning to set and it was a beautiful evening. |
The cattle enjoyed watching us go by. |
We saw a dead raccoon (?) along the way. So sad! |
We arrived in Ashbourne around 7:00, but we found out the next bus wouldn't be coming until 10:30, so we had several hours to hang out. We talked to a young man from the area who was also waiting to catch the bus. At least we TRIED to talk to him. The English are either REALLY easy to understand or impossible. He had a very heavy accent and used many idiom-types of words in his language. We absolutely could hardly understand anything he was saying. It made me wonder how my ancestors spoke.

Here is where we waited - Rich is not a 'happy camper.' |
We finally got back to Derby with Steve and Pip, our hosts, but it was almost midnight by the time we biked up the hill to their home. We tried to be as quiet as church mice coming in and we had an early start for York the next morning. What an adventurous day it was in the land where the Clarkes and the Harrison Families came from...my most intriguing relatives.
